Express Entry Update — October 8, 2026

Thursday, October 8, 2026

Draw #447 on October 1, 2026 was a Trades Occupations category-based draw, issuing 3,500 ITAs at a minimum CRS score of 476.

The previous two draws (Sept 28–29) targeted Provincial Nominees (CRS 725, 733 ITAs) and Canadian Experience Class (CRS 518, 2,000 ITAs), showing significant CRS variation by draw type.

IRCC has issued 130,639–135,215 ITAs so far in 2026, with the next draw predicted around October 13, 2026.

What You Should Do

  • If you have at least 6 months of continuous work experience in a skilled trade (within the past 3 years), check if your occupation qualifies for the Trades Occupations category at canada.ca/express-entry and ensure your Express Entry profile is active and up to date before the next predicted draw on October 13, 2026.
  • Check your current CRS score using the official CRS calculator at canada.ca/crs-tool. If your score is near or above 476, prioritize completing your Express Entry profile now to be eligible for the next Trades or CEC draw.
  • If your CRS score is below 476, consider improving it by: obtaining a provincial nomination (adds 600 points), improving your language test scores (IELTS/CELPIP for English, TEF for French), or gaining additional Canadian work experience. Log in to your IRCC account at canada.ca/ircc-account to review your profile.

Topics Covered

CRS Cutoff Trends: Draw #447 (Trades Occupations) cleared at CRS 476, while the same week's CEC draw cleared at 518 and a PNP draw cleared at 725, illustrating how cutoffs vary sharply by draw category.

Category-Based Selection System: IRCC held three draws in four days (Sept 28–Oct 1) targeting different categories — PNP, CEC, and Trades Occupations — continuing its pattern of frequent category-specific rounds alongside general draws.

How these topics connect

  • Candidates should not evaluate their CRS competitiveness against a single benchmark — a score of 420 is uncompetitive for CEC draws but highly viable for French-language draws, and a score of 169 was sufficient for the Physicians category, illustrating how category-based selection has fundamentally fragmented what it means to be 'competitive' in Express Entry.

  • The dramatic range in CRS cutoffs (169 for Physicians to 802 for PNP) is not random volatility but a structural outcome of the category-based system; candidates should assess their scores relative to their specific eligible category rather than the overall pool.

  • The wide variation in CRS cutoffs reflects Canada's strategic shift toward targeted selection, where occupation-specific needs drive dramatically different entry requirements.
