Thursday, July 16, 2026

Canada's 2026-2028 Immigration Levels Plan targets 380,000 new permanent residents annually, with the economic class accounting for roughly 244,700 admissions per year.

Express Entry processing times have slightly increased to 7 months for both Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Worker as of March 2026, up from the 6-month service standard; general-category CRS cutoffs in 2026 are hovering around 470–490, while category-based draws (French, healthcare, trades, STEM) are lower at 430–460.

During Citizenship Week 2026 (April 12–18), over 80 ceremonies were held across Canada, welcoming approximately 6,000 new citizens from 40 countries.

What You Should Do

  • Check your current CRS score and compare it to the 2026 general-category cutoff range of 470–490 (or 430–460 for category-based draws) using the official CRS tool at canada.ca/express-entry to determine your competitiveness before the next draw.
  • If you have an active Express Entry profile, note that CEC and FSW processing times are now averaging 7 months (as of March 9, 2026), which is 1 month above the 6-month service standard — build this into your planning timeline and monitor your IRCC online account for updates.
  • Review Canada's 2026-2028 Immigration Levels Plan breakdown by category at canadavisa.com to identify which immigration class (economic, family, or refugee/humanitarian) best fits your situation and plan applications accordingly.
  • Note that several immigration programs are currently paused or closed, including the Start-up Visa, Self-Employed Persons program, and the TR-to-PR pathway — verify the current status of any program you are considering at canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada.html before preparing documents.
