Express Entry Update — September 14, 2026

Monday, September 14, 2026

On September 4, 2026, IRCC held a Healthcare and Social Services Occupations category-based draw issuing 3,500 ITAs at a CRS cut-off of 475; the day before, a Physicians with Canadian Work Experience draw issued 229 ITAs at a CRS of just 198.

IRCC has now issued 126,156 invitations across 53 draws so far in 2026, with recent Canadian Experience Class cut-offs ranging between 507–523 and French-language proficiency draws as low as 382.

The Express Entry pool stood at 226,673 profiles as of August 30, with the top-scoring band (501–600) growing by 885 profiles in two weeks, signaling increasing competition at the high end of the pool.

What You Should Do

  • If you work in healthcare or social services, check whether your NOC code qualifies for the Healthcare and Social Services category-based draw at canada.ca/express-entry — the most recent cut-off was 475 CRS (September 4, 2026).
  • If you are a physician with at least 12 months of full-time Canadian work experience in an eligible physician occupation within the past 3 years, confirm your eligibility for the Physicians with Canadian Work Experience category — the September 3 draw had a cut-off of only 198 CRS. Review eligibility criteria at canada.ca/express-entry.
  • If your CRS score falls in the 471–500 range, note that this band grew by 562 profiles in the last two weeks — log into your IRCC account at canada.ca and verify your current CRS score and profile expiry date to ensure you remain active in the pool.
  • If you are a French-language proficient candidate, the August 19 French-Language Proficiency draw issued 5,000 ITAs at a cut-off of 382 — confirm your TEF Canada or TCF Canada language test results are uploaded and current in your Express Entry profile at canada.ca/express-entry.

Topics Covered

CRS Cutoff Trends: The September 4 Healthcare draw cleared at 475 CRS with 3,500 ITAs, while the September 3 Physicians draw cleared at only 198 CRS with 229 ITAs — illustrating how category-based draws produce dramatically different cut-offs depending on the targeted occupation. CEC cut-offs have ranged 507–523 in recent rounds.

Category-Based Selection System: IRCC held back-to-back category-based draws in early September 2026 targeting Healthcare and Social Services Occupations (3,500 ITAs, CRS 475) and Physicians with Canadian Work Experience (229 ITAs, CRS 198), continuing a pattern of frequent occupational draws alongside CEC and PNP rounds.

How these topics connect

  • Candidates should not evaluate their CRS competitiveness against a single benchmark — a score of 420 is uncompetitive for CEC draws but highly viable for French-language draws, and a score of 169 was sufficient for the Physicians category, illustrating how category-based selection has fundamentally fragmented what it means to be 'competitive' in Express Entry.

  • The dramatic range in CRS cutoffs (169 for Physicians to 802 for PNP) is not random volatility but a structural outcome of the category-based system; candidates should assess their scores relative to their specific eligible category rather than the overall pool.

  • The wide variation in CRS cutoffs reflects Canada's strategic shift toward targeted selection, where occupation-specific needs drive dramatically different entry requirements.
