Provincial Nominee Program Update — May 7, 2026
Thursday, May 7, 2026
Canada increased PNP nomination allocations by 31.3% across all provinces and territories that have publicly announced their 2026 totals, including Ontario (14,119), Alberta (6,403), Manitoba (6,239), BC (5,254), and Saskatchewan (4,761).
As of March 27, 2026, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and PEI had not publicly announced their 2026 allocations, though some were already conducting draws.
Effective March 30, 2026, provinces and territories are now solely responsible for assessing two key eligibility factors — ability to become economically established and intent to reside — previously evaluated by IRCC.
What You Should Do
- If you are targeting a province that hasn't announced its 2026 allocation (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, or PEI), check each province's official immigration website regularly for allocation announcements and updated draw schedules.
- If you are applying through a PNP stream, prepare documentation demonstrating your intent to reside in the nominating province and your ability to become economically established — these factors are now assessed solely by the province, not IRCC, as of March 30, 2026.
- Review the increased nomination allocations for your target province on the official provincial immigration portal to assess whether more spots means more draw opportunities or lower score thresholds for 2026.
