Processing times dropped significantly for Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) applicants — from 38 months to 26 months as of June 8, 2026 — while PNP and Quebec Business Class also saw 1–2 month improvements.
Family sponsorship wait times increased by one month for spouses, common-law partners, and parents and grandparents in the latest IRCC update.
A new TR-to-PR pathway is expected to open in 2026, with approximately 16,500 spots per year in 2026 and 2027; demand is expected to far exceed supply, and early preparation is critical given past portal crashes.
What You Should Do
- If you are an AIP applicant, check your application status on your IRCC secure account at ircc.canada.ca — processing times have dropped sharply (from 38 to 26 months) and your file may be moving faster than expected.
- If you are a spouse or common-law partner sponsorship applicant, note that wait times rose by one month as of June 8, 2026. Log in to your IRCC account to confirm your current processing stage and ensure all requested documents have been submitted.
- If you are a temporary resident hoping to use the new TR-to-PR pathway, begin gathering required documents now (proof of status, work/study permit, employment records, identity documents) before the program opens. Review eligibility criteria at canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship to confirm you qualify for one of the streams.
- If you have received a citizenship ceremony invitation, practice the Oath of Citizenship in your preferred language (English or French) before your scheduled date. If you need accommodations or believe you qualify for an oath waiver, contact IRCC before your ceremony date at ircc.canada.ca.
