Family Sponsorship Update — July 2, 2026

Thursday, July 2, 2026

Quebec will reopen family sponsorship intake on July 2, 2026, accepting up to 15,700 applications over two years (13,300 for spouses, 2,400 for parents/grandparents); adult dependent children aged 18+ are now exempt from the cap.

IRCC's February 2026 processing times show a drop in wait times for family sponsorship applications, particularly under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).

Fees for sponsoring parents and grandparents are starting from $1,260, increased as of April 30, 2026.

What You Should Do

  • If you plan to sponsor a family member in Quebec, prepare your undertaking application now and submit on or after July 2, 2026 at the MIFI website (immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca). Note the cap: only 13,300 spousal and 2,400 parent/grandparent applications will be accepted; excess applications will be returned with fees refunded.
  • If your sponsored family member is an adult dependent child (aged 18-21) in Quebec, confirm they qualify as a dependent child (under 22, not married or in a common-law relationship) — they are now exempt from the Quebec cap. Review the MIFI press release for full eligibility details.
  • Check current IRCC processing times for your specific family sponsorship application type at canada.ca/immigration-processing-times to take advantage of recently reduced wait times, especially for PGP applications.
  • If you are sponsoring parents or grandparents federally, budget for the updated fee of at least $1,260 per application, which increased on April 30, 2026. Confirm the full fee breakdown at canada.ca/sponsor-parents-grandparents before submitting.
